La Moulin is on the river Charente in the small village of Saintogne, 5 kms from the pretty town of Jarnac, where you will find a daily market, supermarkets, chemist, restaurants. Cognac is 10 km and Angouleme 20 km. The mill comprises the main Mill house on one side of the river and the disused mill on the opposite bank.
The Mill Island is easily accessible on the very slow moving part of the river by using the boat which is tied to the House Veranda, for those who prefer to go by foot can do so , by taking a short walk. The Mill House was built in 1624 and many of the nice old historic features remain in the building, a superb place in which to relax, and enjoy breakfast on the Veranda overlooking the River, in the warm morning sun is recommended. The Mill on the Island is much older then the Mill house. It is constructed as a fortified mill. The mill is a corn mill and last turned out flour in 1935. The Island Garden is ideal for undisturbed sun bathing or picnics. Wildlife is in abundance especially birds, Swans, Ducks and very large fish. Kingfishers are most prominent. Do take your binoculars. The accommodation is furnished Rustic Style. Ground Floor, Sitting Room,Dining Room Kitchen,Cloakroom and shower. First Floor 4 large bedrooms 2 with 6ft beds the other with 2 singles, Bed Settee and cot. The house is delightful for grownups especially fishermen and those looking for the unusual, NOT SUITABLE FOR TODDLERS AND YOUNG CHILDREN DUE TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE RIVER.
